Summer 2009 research is complete. Many thanks to the crew at Starkey Experimental Forest and Brendan Boyer.

Current Research Projects

Aerial LiDAR Remote Sensing to Examine Forest Stucture

I'm using aerial LiDAR acquired over two dry forests in Washington to study forest structure. Methodologies are currently being developed utilizing an object based approach to identify tree locations. The goal is to develop a method that can accurately predict locations and diameters of both large and small trees. This can be used to generate maps that can then be used to analyze patterns in forest structure at the landscape level.

Assessing Grazing and Fire Effects with Terresterial LiDAR

I'm working with terresterial LiDAR scans I collected at the Starkey Experimental Forest. I plan on analyzing those data in order to quantify forest structure and test hypotheses reletated to different treatments set up in grazing exclosures.
