I am a Ph.D. student of Linguistics at the University of Washington. Currently I am on a research exchange at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. My dissertation topic focuses on the acoustic properties of tone in the endangered First Nations language Dane-zaa, spoken in NE British Columbia and NW Alberta, Canada. Secondary goals of this project cover pitch normalization methodologies, the nature of 'marked' versus 'unmarked' tone and correlates to tone other than the fundamental frequency.

Other academic interests:

  • Digital archiving of endangered languages, and how one might design multiple access points to accommodate different types of users
  • Language documentation
  • Creating practical language materials for community use from collected research recordings
  • Geographic information systems and dialect mapping
  • Using R for statistical analysis and spacial/graphical representations

Ph.D. committee:
Sharon Hargus (Chair), Linguistics, University of Washington

Alicia Beckford Wassink, Linguistics, University of Washington
