Summary of survey results

This list is in no way complete; just a highlight of some of the main points, students had quite a lot to say. But please take a look at what your fellow students had to say about the MSIM program.

What would you like to change about the MSIM program?

• Courses: More HCI/User centered design courses, more tech classes, facilitate more career related activities in class
• Guidance: Tracts! I really want to know what classes I should take for a specific career path, Course titles: Current names sound vague, uninformative, and all the same. Succinct, intuitive names have more direct appeal and foster clearer expectations
• Structure: Students should get more say about their classes, I wish the capstone happened a quarter earlier, so I had those materials to discuss in job interviews, For the executive program, I would like to see more flexibility with electives in the first year
• instructor evaluations taken seriously
• Lower tuition

Do you feel you are prepared for your chosen career when you graduate? (Whether through technical expertise or variety of experience)

• More transparency
• more face to face dialogue

Do you feel you have received benefit from your tuition in the MSIM program? (The creation AIMS, extracurricular activities, choice in classes?)

Is there anything you would like to change about the allocation of funds in the MSIM program?

• Employment: more GA positions, more RA positions, hire better quality teachers
• Use of funds: more clarity, transparency - transparency - transparency
• classes too large

Have you felt your classes this year were of benefit to you?

• classes outside the iSchool were better

What (specifically) would you like to change about your choice in classes?

• More of: content management classes, user centered design courses, practical classes, B-school classes, technical courses
• More: integration with other schools/disciplines, more detail about what will be included in the course and some idea about how the class can tie in with the "real world", detail about classes because the course descriptions are too brief, seeing the syllabus ahead of time
• Need: To change the format of imt 530, change the format of the capstone class, change the info retrieval class, fewer required classes, and more freedom in electives, To know further in advance what electives will be available, reviews from the previous year's students

Have you found it difficult to perform up to the standard set by your professors? (Regarding papers and presentations)

• more clarity from teachers

Do you find it easy to approach your professors with questions?

• can only contact by email

Do you find it easy to locate writing and presentation assistance on campus?

• writing center was not very good
• Presentation assistance exists?
• TA’s were more helpful
