Anyone have thoughts or heard anything interesting about Efthi's IMT 542 class?

It's a painful class. Beware. While it's a decent overview for what search is, the project will cause you neverending headaches because Efthi likes to shift the parameters on you CONSTANTLY so that you never know which end's up.

Module 1: Introduction to IR

Overview of the components of an IRS. Queries, Documents, Indexing. Theories & Models in IR (Retrieval Techniques) for text, hypermedia, web.

Assignments 1 given.



Module 2: Document Analysis

Queries and information needs. Exploring Google Search. Document analysis. Structure of documents, parsing, stemming, morphological analysis, tokenization.

Besides the information given by Efthi through that one email I have not heard anything. His description of the course and its topics was quite intriguing but I ended up taking another class (INFX 538) instead.
