Interested in Business Intelligence?

There will be an open session of MKTG 565 (Database Marketing and Consumer Analytics) next Monday, March 7, from 3:30-5:20 in PACCAR 395.

The speakers are John Neitzel and Heidi Kimble of Central Marketing Group (CMG), a Microsoft corporate department. John and Heidi will deliver a presentation and discussion on operationalizing a database marketing/customer relationship initiative.

If you think you might be interested in BI, this will be a good opportunity to see if the topic sparks your interest, to network a little about course options you might consider, and to learn about skill sets you might require to successfully pursue a BI position.

An MSIM alum shares networking advice

Some of our program alums blog in other spaces. In this case, I’ve decided to share a post by a 2010 MSIM graduate about networking.

Networking: it’s like flossing your teeth. You know you’re supposed to do it, you’re reasonably sure how, it seems like a drag until you make it part of your routine, and you need it most when you really wish you’d been doing it all along. This post is intended to give you tips on what you need (like a portfolio) and using some tools you may already have (like social media).

If you’re seeking a job or an internship, best of luck!

(Disclosure: I am also a contributor to the Infoscussion blog. We also have alumni covering Info Assurance & Security topics, and observations from a Business Analyst in the field.)
