drawing

In these digital drawings, I used grids as bases for composition. In this way, these drawings are more explorations of a method of composition, than an exploration of an emotional idea.

All the pieces were done using the combination of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

This is the final drawing which I printed on 36" x 24" glossy paper. This drawing started with a grid of a spiral, then I searched pictures and elements from my other drawings below that would fit the spiral.

The leftmost drawing started out as a 3 x 3 grid, while the rightmost started as a 5 x 3 grid. I think the leftmost composition was more successful in taking advantage of its grid.

Again, the drawings below started with grids (3x3, 2x2, 3x2, 5x5, respectively). For the first two drawings, I used lines and shadings to create the images. The last two drawings look like pixelizations of photographs, but their not. To create them, I layered translucent shapes. I started layering large shapes first, then proceeded to layer smaller shapes as I added more details to the images.
