Biosketch
My first name is pronounced HI'-rum. It's uncommon,
but comes with notable company.
Professional
I began Ph.D. studies at the University of Washington in the fall
of 2006. Previously, I was an associate staff member at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington,
MA, from May 2003 - September 2003. There, I conducted research for
applications in space
control and laser radar
systems. I came to MIT Lincoln Laboratory from Brigham Young University, where I
completed both my BS and MS degrees in 2003 in Electrical
Engineering. My Master's research in satellite remote sensing of
polar sea ice was conducted under the direction of Prof. David Long
in the Microwave Earth Remote
Sensing Lab.
Personal
Prior to living in Seattle, I lived in Boston, MA, where I met my
wife, Nicole. Our son, Scott, was born in Seattle in 2006 during my
first year back in grad school. During my undergraduate education,
I spent two years on a voluntary mission for my church, living in and around Moscow,
Russia. Extra-curricular interests
include Russian linguistics, jazz piano improv, accordion,
athletics and outdoors, and
accurate moisture sensors for
automated irrigation control. I also enjoy taking part in service
opportunities in my university, community and church. I am a native of Meridian, ID.
