Research project idea (question, title, topic, or idea)

Project title: Nepal Heart Health Study

Location: Data are already collected from Nepal, just needs analysis (human subjects all done!)

Population: Sample of 200 adults living in either an urban setting, Kathmandu (n=100), or a rural setting, Dhulekhel (n=100).

Methods: This project used a clustered sampling technique to randomly select districts and households within the district.  A team of two physicians and one nurse visited each home to conduct interviews and a physical exam with other procedures related to CVD and its risk factors.

Timeline: The NHHS has collected pilot data from two sites, one urban and one rural. A wide range of information on cardiovascular disease was gathered including data on hypertension, lipids, diet, physical activity, comorbidities, spirometry, gait speed, etc.  The student will select a topic that not yet been analyzed and analyze/write up a paper for publication.  We would also like to use these pilot data to prepare a proposal for funding a larger study.
