Welcome
I am a PhD candidate at the University of Washington, School of Forest Resources studying with Jon Bakker and Charlie Halpern.
My interests are broadly focused on the response of native plant communities to environmental change / human disturbance and our society’s effort to conserve and restore these communities.
A Midwesterner at heart, my fascination with native plant communities began during my studies of Minnesota tallgrass prairie remnants while an undergrad at St. Olaf College. After relocating to the Pacific Northwest, my research has continued to focus on the ecology, conservation, and restoration of native grassland communities.
When not working in the lab or in the field, I try to spend as much time as possible exploring the beautiful PNW with my wife Rheta and daughter Eleanor. I also enjoy bicycling, hiking, and playing soccer and ultimate Frisbee.
