Dreadlords are the opposite of the templar. They are strong in blade, though lacking in defensive ability. They gain power two ways. The first way is through dark runes, which are corruptions and inventions designed to counter the way of the templar. The second method is through calling demons. While compacts with demons allow for the gain of tremedenous power, it also taints the soul. While a little taint can help your physical strength, many a dreadlord has given way to madness- which can have serious consequences. Most demons let loose in the realm, are the souls of dreadlords whose power has consumed them due to their foolishness or lust for power beyond which they can control. Because of the heretical nature of taint, only the darkest of the dark are willing to subject themselves to such methods for advancement in power- and the guilds are not welcome in the homes or lives of the holy, and even those who follow a path of neutrality shun the way of the Dreadlord.
