Shaftoe Says

Shaftoe has that look that says "Gosh, what a beautiful day! Why are you walking me in the park? You can come here any day, but today is a beautiful fall day, you ought to go out and do something, I dunno, fallish.

You better do it, or i'm gonna... um... eatcha! I have such sharp pointy teeth, look at 'em. What are you waiting for? Go! Nyah! nyah nyah nyah! (Shibas don't really bark.)

We Solemnly Swear We Are Up to No Good

It was pure chance (well, mostly chance) that I actually managed to find these two standing at the entrance to Bob's Corn Maze. First of all, amazing I made it to Bob's, given the football traffic, the malfunctioning taffic lights on the highways, and the vaguely remembered directions I wasn't really paying attention to when they were uttered. Also, my cellphone is missing, so I didn't have my instant communication crutch. But I found them! And they solemnly swore the corn maze was going to be fun.

The Signs Lie!

There were signs that had multiple-choice questions on them about John Deere and corn mazes and suchlike, and each answer had an arrow indicating the way we were supposed to go. Great idea, right?

But on closer inspection, we noticed that the signs had been tampered with! Someone had turned them in their holes, and others had been uprooted and left lying amongst the corn. Hooligans? Or worse?

No! Not that way!

We gave up on the signs. We overheard other people trapped in the maze, using their cellphones to call out for help. But we would not let the maze break us! We walked and walked and walked, then ran and ran. We tried the right-turn-only rule, but there were loops. Scot came off his sugar high. Reen was running low on caffeine. What had seemed like such a pleasant, bucolic way to spend the afternoon became a monotonous stretch of wrong turns and row after row of sharp, painful corn... Reen took off ahead of us at one point... we called out to her, "No, not that way!" because we had seen the horror movies, and we knew that no good ever comes of breaking the party up.

Don't Look Back, Just Run!

In the Nick of Time

We made it out just as the sun was setting. I wouldn't have wanted to be stuck in there after dark!
