The Academic and the Church:

What Little Miss Sunshine has to do with your life as a Christian scholar.

How does the academic find her place in a Church that doesn’t always understand or value her vocation?
How does the Church shape university faculty to carry out their academic calling?
And how does the Christian scholar put his scholarship at the service of the church?

Join us for a morning of exploration as Dr. James K A Smith helps us to reflect on these and other questions related to the sometimes complicated relationship between the Church and Christian scholars. Dr. Smith will guide us as we consider how academic people relate to both the local church and the Church universal. He will wonder with us about the role of worship, community and mission in the formation of the Christian scholar and will facilitate as we workshop ideas for how our scholarship can serve and bless the Church.
