Travis Bundy Presentation

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Travis Bundy is a local comic artist who works with both digital and traditional media.  Today, he presented his critically acclaimed comic book “Jeff”, as well as some posters he produced for the Bellingham Roller Betties and the Show Devils.  Light refreshments were served, and club members were able to ask questions and buy copies of Jeff.

Jeff is a comic about an average guy who mysteriously disappears into an alternate world every now and then.  Every time he disappears, he must accomplish some heroic feat such as saving an attractive lady from a hideous foe by using an axe.  Usually, this causes Jeff to miss work in the real world, especially since his boss and coworkers don’t understand what’s going on.

During the presentation, Travis described how the comic began as a caricature of an actual guy named Jeff, and evolved into an entire series.  The coloring was done with markers rather than Photoshop to obtain a uniquely garish and eye-catching look, and many of the characters were based on Travis’s coworkers.  The comic is full of references to other media, such as the Men’s Room radio show — in fact, Travis obtained permission from the Men’s Room to use their logo on Jeff’s cap!

Travis is also the Artistic Director and Submissions Director for Creator’s Edge Press, an independent comic company based in Puyallup, WA.  If you’re interested in getting your comic published, get in touch.

If you missed the presentation, or had to leave early, you can check out his work on his Web site, Thoughtbox Comics.  Hopefully, we’ll be able to post a video of the presentation soon.
