Welcome to the GNS Website!

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

Hello Everybody,

This is my first time posting onto the GNS Website, after a couple of trouble shootings. Eliminating all of the blog postings (1267 of them to be exact) took quite a while, but worth the effort!  Anyways, here’s the line-up for the fall quarter:

-10/6 – Crazy Plotlines, Officer Elections (Joe aka Yoshi)

-10/13 – Digital Art Tutorial (Win, Ciera)

-10/20 – Montage, New Flyer (Everybody)

-10/27 – Screentone Presentation (Joe)

-11/3 – Perspectives (Win)

-11/10 – Biographic Novels (Boram)

-11/17 – Meeting Someone New – Character Development Ideas (Ryan)

-11/24 – Thanksgiving Break! No Meeting.

-12/1 – How to Draw a Comic, Comic Improvisation (Joe, Win, Ciera)

-12/8 – Free Manga Paper Day, Read Comics Day, Show & Tell (Yoshi)

Hope to see you there!

-Joseph Lee

Presentations by local comic artists!

Saturday, May 14th, 2011

Instead of having our regular GNS meetings for the next two weeks, we’re going to have two, that’s right, two presentations by comic artists from the Seattle area! Light refreshments will be served at both presentations!

Plus One Comics, Thursday 5/19, 7PM, SAV 168

Plus One is a webcomic about gaming by Lance Icarus and Dizzy Fox. Read their comic and learn more about them at Note that this presentation will NOT be at the regular time but will be at 7PM!

Nate Simpson, Friday 5/27, 5PM, GOW 201

Nate Simpson has worked on video games since 1993. Former employers include the Dreamers Guild, Taldren, GoPets Inc., and Gas Powered Games. Most recently, he led the art team for Demigod, released in 2009 by Gas Powered Games and Stardock. He is currently taking a year off to learn how to make comics. He lives in Seattle with his wife, Jiyoung. Visit his website at that this presentation will NOT be at the regular time of Thursday but will be on FRIDAY!

We’re planning on securing bigger rooms for these presentations, so please come, spread the word, invite your friends!

Flyer and Banner contests!

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Hey all!

Graphic Novel Society wants YOU artists out there to submit art for next quarter’s advertising flyers and for the website banner! This is a great excuse to draw something, and you’ll be able to advertise your artwork to boot!

See below for submission specifications!

Spring Quarter Announcements

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Hello! Hope everyone has come back from spring break refreshed!

Meetings for spring quarter will be on Fridays at 3:30pm in HUB 304F – for the most part. On April 16 we meet in Suzzallo 328, April 23 in HUB 209B, and May 28 in Suzzallo 328. Please make note of the differing locations!

We have some awesome things planned out for this quarter, including and not limited to:

– A group “field trip” to Uwajimaya, the Daiso, and other parts of Seattle’s International District!

– A presentation by a professional comic book artist!

– New posters and fliers for the club!

Sakura-con is this area’s largest and best anime convention, with over 13,000 attendants from last year.  Find great J-Cool/anime merchandise, visit some great drawing/story related panels, see concerts, find Vic Mignona (oh wait for once he’s not here!), cosplay, and have fun with random but friendly people!

Tickets at the door.  Party on the floor.  And do it some more.

As one individual put it so eloquently: Girugamesh!

Check back here in a few days for the meeting schedule and topics for spring quarter 🙂

Looking for OFFICERS for Spring Quarter and possibly next year!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

As you may know, the current officers are Frank, Tyler, and I. However, Frank and Tyler will be graduating this year — and we were thinking that getting a few officers for Spring quarter in order to prepare for next year might be a good idea. Here are the positions we think would be useful: Art Officer, Writing Officer, ADP Liason, and Special Events/PR…

Emerald City ComiCon in April!

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

The Emerald City ComiCon will be going on April 4-5 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center here in our very own Seattle, WA!

Tickets are really cheap — you can get advance tickets for about $15-25 at local comic shops, such as at our very own Zanadu Comics in the U-district. Tickets will also be available at the door.
