Lambda Chapter Philanthropy

Gamma Phi Beta’s local philanthropy is raising money for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. “Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening genetic disease affecting approximately 30,000 people in the United States.

For people with the disease, a defective gene causes the body to produce a faulty protein that leads to abnormally thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and can result in fatal lung infections. In 1955, there was no centralized care system for CF patients. Today, the CF Foundation accredits more than 115 care centers at major teaching and community hospitals, offering comprehensive, quality diagnosis and care nationwide”-

Every year we work as a house to raise money and awareness for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. To do this, we put on multiple events, including basketball tournaments, fajita feeds, and we always create a gigantic mailing list in which we send out letters asking for donations. Our largest event of the year is our Spring Slam Tennis Tournament. We always end with a bang by participating in the Great Strides Walk in downtown Seattle every spring. The entire house participates in all of our events; as it is a wonderful way to have fun while raising money for a very important cause.

In addition to our local philanthropy, we also take advantage of our large infrastructure of dedicated and passionate woman to raise money for other causes important to individual members within the house. Some of these include: collecting food items for Northwest Harvest, participating in Race for the Cure, Relay for Life, traveling to different places around the world such as Africa and Mexico to share our love and energies with others in need, and working with volunteer organizations here in our local Seattle community.

International Philanthropy
Gamma Phi Beta’s International philanthropy is Campfire USA. Gamma Phi Beta has selected camps, in particular, camps for underprivileged girls, as the focus of international charitable endeavors. As an organization committed to women, we believe firmly in lending our best efforts to create a nurturing environment that provides women the opportunity to achieve their potential through life-long commitment to intellectual growth, individual worth, and service to humanity.

Each year, we contribute to this philanthropy by creating bags containing daily necessities for the girls attending the camps around the nation. This philanthropy also generates an increased awareness of the needs of women and children in the local area, encouraging our members to seek out opportunity to volunteer at local charities, hospitals, and schools.
