"I want to acknowledge the reasons why I decided to pursue
higher education. I could not have
done it without the inspiration of my family, especially my mom Billie Jo
McClelland and my dad Loren Stafford.
My education here at the UW has taken a lot of hard work and
dedication and at times I was ready to give it all up, but I realized that
anything in life worth having is worth working hard for. For Native people, we tend to not do
things for personal gain and I think of my education the same way. I really do believe that I owe it to the
younger and older people in my family and the people in my community. I often think that it was not too long
ago, there were major efforts and forces doing what they could to make sure
I never existed, let alone get an education and exist alongside thier
decendents... I am thankful for those who came before me and am trying to
make it easier for those who are still to come. Nya'weh"
