Fiji house at the Polar Plunge philanthropy event

Philanthropy

For the last 20 odd years we, the men of Phi Gamma Delta at the University of Washington, have challenged ourselves in the support of philanthropic organizations. From leap frog world records to Border to Border bicycle rides, we strive each year to push ourselves physically as a measure of our dedication to the cause. This year we have chosen Peaks for Progress, in which Sigma Tau will simultaneously summit the five Cascade peaks in Washington. On June 13th, 2009 5 teams of members will climb Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, Mt. Baker, Mt. St. Helens, and Glacier Peak. Our 2009 philanthropy of choice is Construction for Change.

In addition to climbing over 56,000 feet in one day, Sigma Tau is looking to raise over $50,000 to fund Construction for Change's current Zambia project; The Limulunga Community School. Located just outside of Mongu, Limulunga Community School has been providing free education for the community since 2002. The school is run by headmistress Mbuywana Mbukusita-Lewanika. There are around 560 students currently enrolled, mostly from ages 5 to 18. There are 16 full time teachers that cover grades K-7.

The members of Fijis will be fundraising throughout the next 4 months in order to reach our goal. We will also be relying on corporate sponsorship to break the $50,000 barrier. If you have an interest in donating or corporate sponsorship please contact Paul Hageman at (206) 910-3810. For more information please visit constructionforchange.org, or the Sigma Tau website. You may donate securely online through the Construction for Change website or by mailing in a check. Please remember to put 'Fiji' and my name in the 'Designate Donation' field or on the 'check memo'. Thank you!
