Discovery Days 2011

Anti-Bottle Fundraiser -- 0.5 L Anti-Bottle

EWB will be hosting three exhibits representing its Bolivia projects at the UW College of Engineering’s Discovery Days and holding an Anti-Bottle Fundraiser on April 22nd (Friday) and April 23rd (Saturday).

On Friday April 22, the exhibits will be catered towards grades 4-8:

“Re-create EWB’s Bolivia projects with your own hands — build gabions to prevent a landslide, design a system to bring drinking water from a mountain to a village, and make a structure that stands up to earthquake and wind.”

On Saturday April 23, the exhibits will be tailored towards high school, community college, and pre-engineering students.

See you at Discovery Days!

Anti-Bottle Fundraiser

Looking to get more involved with Engineers Without Borders next quarter? Well, the new anti-bottle fundraiser is the perfect opportunity. EWB-UWS ventures to sell “anti-bottle” water bottles to raise money for the Huaraca and Piriquina water projects this summer. Anti-bottle water bottles store water in a durable, flexible pouch, as opposed to the rigid containers water bottles, which allows ease in transportation and minimized storage among other qualities (visit http://vapur.us for more anti-bottle information). The water bottles are provided by a non-profit organization called Randomkid. They will be sold for $10, which means that EWB-UWS earns around $5 for every anti-bottle sold!

Interested in volunteering? Send mattidso@uw.edu an e-mail stating your interest.

The first meeting for the anti-bottle fundraiser will be held during the first week of spring quarter (exact time and location TBD).

Winter Quarter Meeting — Volunteer Opportunities

If you missed the meeting, take a look at the PDF of the presentation detailing the volunteer opportunities for THREE design projects and Dessert & Wine.

We will have design team meetings starting next week, so keep your eyes open for those announcements.

Also, don’t forget to stop by the CDM booth tomorrow from 1-4 at the career fair in the Gould Hall commons. CDM will donate $0.50 to our chapter for every EWB member who stops by and drops a token in their fish bowl! Feel free to distribute the attached CDM flier.

Finally, if you have not done so already, please volunteer to help in some capacity with the Dessert and Wine fundraiser. This is the most important fundraising event for our chapter and we cannot support our projects without funding! Volunteer opportunities and contact information are listed in the presentation pdf.

Matching Donations for End-of-Year Gift-Giving

Your holiday gift-giving will have twice the impact, thanks to matching funds from Google, Turner Construction, CDM, CH2M HILL and the EWB-USA Board of Directors, thus maximizing year-end donations!

Beginning November 24, 2010, all donations to an EWB-USA Chapter’s General Fund or the EWB-USA General Fund through the website http://www.ewb-usa.org/2010giving or the official EWB-USA year-end mail solicitation piece (mailed out by EWB-USA) will be matched until funds are depleted.

EWB-USA will match all donations from 11/24 -12/31 2010 dollar for dollar up to $10,000 per chapter or until the matching funds ($150,000) are depleted. For every dollar a donor contributes (either to EWB-USA or to an EWB-USA chapter) 50 cents will follow the donation and 50 cents will go to the EWB-USA General Fund (see this PDF to see how your funds will be matched).

Thank you for your generosity!

“One donation. Twice the support. Help us change the world.” – EWB-USA
