Come join EWB-UWS on Thursday January 17th, 2013 at the HUB Bowling Alleys for a fun Social Gathering!

Prepare for a little competition, prizes and PIZZA while getting to know EWB-UWS Members and Officers!

See you all Soon!

Numbers from the Fall Kickoff

Fall Kickoff 2012 was a huge success!
We saw lots of new faces eager to get involved with the chapter and we couldn’t be more excited for the coming year!

Here are some attendance numbers from the Kickoff:

Total Signed Up: 152
Total Numbers by committee:
Community Awareness Committee:71
Health, Safety, and Logistics:69
Research & Design:145
Publicity & Outreach:94
Fundraising:78
Undecided:65

With the addition of all these new students we had to create more leadership positions as well. These positions are designated to function as a middle man between the EC and Committees. Not only does it distribute the load on people’s shoulders but it also gives more opportunities for students to gain important leadership experience.
Another testament the fact that we are a student-led organization!

Fall Kickoff Meeting

With the start of the new school year EWB-UWS is firing on all cylinders!

On the agenda today: Fall Kickoff Meeting!
Monday Oct 8th, 2012 @ 5PM in Gowen 201

It has been a busy summer and we have some big news that will require lots of willing hands to join us! (Hint: trout in Guatemala) Come on over and visit us as we talk about who we are, what we’ve been up to, and what’s in the future.

Stay tuned for more information about the going-ons in our chapter.
Hopefully, we’ll be rolling out some big changes soon.

Come Visit Us At Engineering Discovery Days

On April 20th and 21st, the University of Washington will be hosting Engineering Discovery Days.

It is open to everyone to come and check out what the engineering departments and clubs on campus (Including EWB!) are all about.

Engineers Without Borders will be having a booth located in Sylvan Grove Theatre where we will be showcasing the work of an associated partner project, the Gambia Grain Mill Project. We will be grinding oats with some of the grinders that were designed and built for this project.

We are expecting it to be lots of fun and we hope to see you there!

Anti-Bottle Fundraiser -- 0.5 L Anti-Bottle

EWB will be hosting three exhibits representing its Bolivia projects at the UW College of Engineering’s Discovery Days and holding an Anti-Bottle Fundraiser on April 22nd (Friday) and April 23rd (Saturday).

On Friday April 22, the exhibits will be catered towards grades 4-8:

“Re-create EWB’s Bolivia projects with your own hands — build gabions to prevent a landslide, design a system to bring drinking water from a mountain to a village, and make a structure that stands up to earthquake and wind.”

On Saturday April 23, the exhibits will be tailored towards high school, community college, and pre-engineering students.

See you at Discovery Days!

Critical Development Forum, Kick-Off Meeting 1/27/11

Sorry for the late notice, but today was the first meeting of a new student organization, the Critical Development Forum, founded by members of EWB.

Here is some information on what they’re all about:

Have you ever wondered why there are so many dedicated people working in development and such uneven progress? Do you wonder how YOU can change that? If so, come to the inaugural meeting for a new group rethinking international development! Kicking off the discussion will be Dr. Stephen Bezruchka, who has spent 11 years working on rural health in Nepal. He will share some of his insights and critical reflections on his own work. After general Q&A, we will break into small groups to critically discuss our own development work while at the UW and future plans. No international development experience necessary, just come with interest and an open mind!

The Critical Development Forum is a student group dedicated to bringing together students across disciplines to discuss the challenges and possibilities of development work. Together we can help rethink and reshape development.

If you are interested, feel free to e-mail Dean Chahim at dchahim@uw.edu.

Edit: Alternatively, sign up for the mailing list to receive e-mails about upcoming meetings.
