Come Visit Us At Engineering Discovery Days

On April 20th and 21st, the University of Washington will be hosting Engineering Discovery Days.

It is open to everyone to come and check out what the engineering departments and clubs on campus (Including EWB!) are all about.

Engineers Without Borders will be having a booth located in Sylvan Grove Theatre where we will be showcasing the work of an associated partner project, the Gambia Grain Mill Project. We will be grinding oats with some of the grinders that were designed and built for this project.

We are expecting it to be lots of fun and we hope to see you there!

Marshmallow Towers and Pizza! Tuesday 2/7 5pm!

Come join us TOMORROW in EEB 403 at 5PM. We’re having our infamous marshmallow tower competition with prizes for the winning teams!

If you have not yet been involved with an EWB project, this is a great way to meet with students who have had first-hand experience with the organization and ask them for advice, suggestions, and possible opportunities to get involved.

Fall Kick-Off Meeting 2011

The fall kick-off meeting is tentatively planned for Monday, October 10th at 5 pm in Sieg 134.  Hope to see you there!

Bolivia Project Teams 2011 Departing

Two project teams are off to Bolivia this summer — the Piriquina Water Team and the Roofs and Stoves Team. We wish them the best of luck on their trip, and look forward to hearing from them when they return!

Thank you to the NCEES Grant Team

Congratulations to the NCEES grant team for the recent submission of an application to The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying Engineering Award. If accepted, the award will support implementation of the EWB-UWS water project, bringing a potable water system to the Bolivian community of Piriquina.

We would like to give a special thank you to the Grant Team Lead, Lara Pracht for her hard work, dedication and leadership in completing this grant and display board.

Discovery Days 2011

Anti-Bottle Fundraiser -- 0.5 L Anti-Bottle

EWB will be hosting three exhibits representing its Bolivia projects at the UW College of Engineering’s Discovery Days and holding an Anti-Bottle Fundraiser on April 22nd (Friday) and April 23rd (Saturday).

On Friday April 22, the exhibits will be catered towards grades 4-8:

“Re-create EWB’s Bolivia projects with your own hands — build gabions to prevent a landslide, design a system to bring drinking water from a mountain to a village, and make a structure that stands up to earthquake and wind.”

On Saturday April 23, the exhibits will be tailored towards high school, community college, and pre-engineering students.

See you at Discovery Days!

Anti-Bottle Fundraiser

Looking to get more involved with Engineers Without Borders next quarter? Well, the new anti-bottle fundraiser is the perfect opportunity. EWB-UWS ventures to sell “anti-bottle” water bottles to raise money for the Huaraca and Piriquina water projects this summer. Anti-bottle water bottles store water in a durable, flexible pouch, as opposed to the rigid containers water bottles, which allows ease in transportation and minimized storage among other qualities (visit http://vapur.us for more anti-bottle information). The water bottles are provided by a non-profit organization called Randomkid. They will be sold for $10, which means that EWB-UWS earns around $5 for every anti-bottle sold!

Interested in volunteering? Send mattidso@uw.edu an e-mail stating your interest.

The first meeting for the anti-bottle fundraiser will be held during the first week of spring quarter (exact time and location TBD).
