About the Yanayo Community

The village of Yanayo lies high in the Andean region of Bolivia roughly 100 km SW of Cochabamba. The community is comprised of roughly 23 households or about 100 people and has a high incidence of Chagas disease. For the past 500 years this small community has relied on traditional (rain-fed) farming for their existence. For the past couple decades, the village has seen a drought diminish its crops and thus, its food supply and livelihood. Disease incidence is aggravated by poor nutrition, non-potable water, poor sanitation, thatched roofs, and smoke filled kitchens.
