Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I'm not an engineer - can I help?
A: Absolutely - we seek dedicated individuals from all backgrounds. Indeed, our current president is a graduate student in Microbiology.
Q: I'm an undergraduate, just starting my engineering degree. How can I contribute?
A: See above. We have members from a wide variety of backgrounds and at many different levels in their careers. We are always looking for greater undergraduate involvement and indeed, there are many roles students can play. Note that part of the EWB mission is that of education - we have all learned from our involvement and become greater assets to the group as a result.
Q: What kind of time commitment is expected of me?
A: This is up to the individual - you can get as involved as your time permits.
Ultimately, we find the more you choose to get involved, the more you get out of the experience, and the greater the benefit to EWB.
Q: How can I best get involved?
A: Explore our website, sign up for our listserv
to receive announcements, email our officers with questions.
Attend our regular (generally weekly) meetings - this is a great way to learn
about our group and what we're up to.
Q: What might I do to help?
A: We always need help - this group is what we make of it. We always have work to be done, ranging from engineering design work, organizational efforts, grant writing, outreach, and fundraising.
Q: Will I get to travel?
A: It depends. We do have multiple opportunities to travel for site assessments
and project implementations. To date, students who have wanted to travel have
generally gotten to do so. Decisions are made by the Executive Committee following guidelines documented on this site . Level of student involvement is a large factor in these decisions.
