I am a Doctoral Candidate at the Freie Universitaet Berlin, but I maintain my office at the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries. The focus of my current research is on the effects of artificial light at night on stream and riparian systems. My doctoral supervisor is Prof. Klement Tockner. I finished my Masters at the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences at the University of Washington in 2009. My research there focused on riparian ecology, specifically on the relationship of soil water holding capacity and nitrogen availability to riparian tree growth on the Queets River. My advisor was Prof. Robert J Naiman. Before UW, I received a bachelors degree from Reed College. My CV can be viewed here. My short-term goal after earning my doctoral degree is to find an excellent post-doc position that allows me to continue doing exciting ecological research. My long-term goal is to become a professor. I can't imagine a more fulfilling job than to pass on the ecological knowledge I have gained while also having the opportunity to engage in research. In my spare time, I am a long-distance runner and I compete in ride-and-tie, a sport that combines endurance riding and long-distance running.
