BEFORE YOU CONNECT TO THE DELTA UPSILON NETWORK:

Install Microsoft Service Pack 2:
http://www.windowsupdate.com

Install Anti-Virus Software (Free from UW):
Download from here

Installation Instructions Make sure that you SCHEDULE anti-virus updates and scans at least once a week.

** BE SURE that you are virus free BEFORE you get onto the network!! **

Connecting to the Delta Upsilon Network

All DUs should be connected to the network. By connecting to the network you are able to share the files of your choice on your computer and grab files from other computers on the network. This is a very effective way to obtain files from each other.

Steps to connecting to the network (via Windows XP - Most of you use XP if you use another OS come see me if you need help):

1. Be sure you have a ethernet cable connected from the port in your room to your computer. (Both ports should be active, if they are not please see the network administrator)

2. Go to
Start>>Programs>>Accessories>>Communications>>Network Setup Wizard

3. Click Next

4. Click Next again

5. Click on the radio button “This computer connects to the internet though another computer on the network or through a residential gateway.”

6. Put DU MEMBER as the computer description

7. Put your first initial then last name as your computer name (ie. Jisip)

8. Put DELTAUPSILON (one word) as the workgroup name.

9. Click Next

10. It should ask you restart your computer when you finish.

After your computer is done restarting:

1. Right click on “my network places” and go to properties.
2. Right click on “Local Area Connection” and go to properties.
3. In the local area connection properties go to the Advanced Tab.
4. Click on the "Settings" Button.
5. In the firewall settings menu click on the "Exceptions" tab and click the check box "FIle and Print Sharing"

After doing this you should be all ready to go! Check to see if you can see the other computers on the network by going to my network places>>entire network>>Microsoft Windows Network>>DeltaUpsilon

Using Outlook Express to recieve your UW Mail

1. Open Outlook Express

2. Go to Tools>>Accounts

3. Click on the Add Button and go to Mail...

4. Put in your name where it asks for your name.

5. Put in your e-mail address where it asks for your e-mail address

6. Change incoming mail server to iMAP

7. In the incoming mail textbox put:
your_uwnetid.deskmail.washington.edu
(ie. jisip.deskmail.washington.edu)

8. In the SMTP textbox put: relay1.nw.verio.net

9. Enter your UWNetID as the Username and put in your UWnetID password for the password.

10. You should be setup, just be sure to click on the UW Internet Mail inbox and not the local inbox on the left when you want to check your mail.

Connecting to the Network Printer
*NOTE: During this process if Windows asks for a driver: Hit "OK" In the text box of" Copy Files here" enter:
\\Du-server\shared\pcl6\s01266en\disk1

1) Go to: Start>>Control Pannel>>Printers and Faxes
2)Add Printer
3) "Next"
4) Click on the radio button "A Network Printer, or a printer attached to another computer" then click "next"
5) Click on the second radio button "Connect to this printer"
6) In the text box of step 5, type: \\du-server\SAVIN_COPIER
7) It may ask you if you are sure to connect, click "Yes"
8) Click Yes if you want to set it as your Default Printer, then click "Next"
9) If everything looks good, click "Finish"

Network Login for the Library Downstairs

1. These computers should remain logged in at all times. However, in the event that they are logged off for some reason, here is the login information:

Username: DUMember
Password: DUMember

Please do not save any files to these computers! Keep them clean which will in turn keep them fast!
