Major Social Events
Brotherhoods
These are social events for fraternity members only. It gives us a chance
to celebrate what a fine house we have, and it enables us to congregate as a brotherhood. Events
range from a simple night of poker to Christmas Brotherhood. Any volunteers to be Santa?
Cocktail Dance
This is a semi-formal date function in which members will be introduced
to a style of dance that is most likely new to them. It is intended
to have somewhat of a high class atmosphere. The event, which was
first held in 2001, was quite a success.
Dinner
Yes, dinner at DU is a social event. It is a time to eat with others, and to talk
about the days events. We eat together much as a family, building brotherhood while enjoying
delicious home cooking.
Exchanges
These events are a chance for us to meet the women of the Greek System. We will
participate in various social events with sororities, ranging from hockey games to scavenger hunts.
Founders Day
This is a formal banquet held each year on November 4~ with our
alumni. Members are required to attend. It is the celebration of
the founding of our Fraternity, and members are asked to invite
their fathers. This is a great time for your fathers to get involved
with the Fraternity and its activities. It is also a chance for
the alumni to meet the newest pledge class.
Greek Week
This is an all-Greek event held in the Spring Quarter. It is a week-long series
of competitive events held between fraternities and sororities. This is a great time to socialize and
compete on behalf of DU.
Halloween Dance
The annual dance held at the end of October. The pledge class is responsible
for decorating the chapter house to fit a Halloween theme.
Basement Parties
These are held every two to three weeks and are put on by the Social
Chairmen. Each party will have its own theme. These can be very relaxing and fun and will usually be
held towards the end of the week.
Pledge Dance
Held in Vancouver, B.C. at the Hyatt Regency, this is the premier social event
of the year. Tuxedos are provided by the Fraternity, and there is a formal dinner and ceremony. Attendance
is required for pledges (like you want to miss this.)
Sorority Philanthropies
Throughout the year various sororities will hold events to raise money
for a certain charity. Although this is not to meant as a social event, it is chance to get to know girls
better that are involved with the philanthropy.
Stock Show
The first social event of the year; Stock Show introduces the newest
pledge class to the women of the Greek System.
Winter Dance
This dance is hosted by the pledge class during Winter Quarter. The pledge class
is responsible for decorating the chapter house and inviting ladies to attend. Generally, the theme for
this dance is tropical.
