Carly H. Vynne

Issues of land use and management for biodiversity have been a common theme throughout my professional experiences to date.  In 1998, I worked for the Mpumalanga Provincial Parks Board of South Africa to help reintroduce lions to a network of private reserves.

After returning from South Africa, I worked as a Staff Scientist for the Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center (CSERC), based in Twain Harte, California.  As a Staff Scientist, I used camera trap and snow track surveys to identify important carnivore habitat in the Sierra Nevada mountains.  I also helped to develop a Wilderness area proposal as part of a statewide campaign, evaluated county development proposals, provided comments on behalf of CSERC and our members to the United States Forest Service, and wrote press releases on a variety of issues.

From 1999 until June 2003, before returning to graduate school, I worked for the Center for Biodiversity Science at Conservation International (CI).  While at CI, I worked with colleagues around the world to assemble biodiversity information and develop regional conservation plans.  My travels for this position brought me to such diverse places as Ghana, Suriname, Brazil, Colombia, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Western Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, the Philippines, Indonesia, and China.
