Once again, it’s time to play, “Report that Senate!” I’m your host and senator, Gareth Snow.
Our executor has made the crucial mistake of allowing me to post these Senate reports. Now I can disseminate the great flood of reports which had been lurking on the computer in the HCL office (although if you’re reading this at the bottom of the page, you likely already know that).
Astute readers (or those able to count) will note that it has been three weeks since my last Senate report. There are a few reasons for this. The overwhelming part of the business of the Senate, including the entirety of the last two meetings, has been moving through the Legislative agenda, a copy of which may be viewed at the ASUW Senate web site (linked at the bottom of this page). While this is an extremely important document (which I passed around at the last League match), it is moving rather slowly, with lively and engaged debate springing up at the slightest provocation. I hope this means that the document turns out well. In any case, the legislative agenda, which is the list of lobbying priorities at local, state, and national levels for the ASUW, is being refined over the course of several meetings. The last three meetings have involved the discussion of this document, even to the exclusion of committee meetings. Compounding this, I had to miss the last Senate meeting for a math class review session; I attempted to find a proxy for that week at the match of that month, but nobody there was both available and eligible. While these circumstances make for a boring (but brief) Senate report, I encourage everyone to be in touch with me with questions, concerns, and issues regarding the agenda.
Also, with my new ability to write reports that other people can read, I expect to increase the frequency with which I write them.
As always, I can be reached during my office hour (12:00 — 1:00 on Wednesdays in HUB S-31) or at snowg@u.washington.edu. Inform me of your opinions on legislation and issues I can bring to the Senate’s attention. Also, we still need signatures for our petition to renew our Senate seat.
Your Senator,
Gareth Snow
