Time for another Senate Report. I really wonder if anyone will read these. Ah well, I only have a million other things to do.
The CEO of the bookstore came to talk about the high prices of textbooks and the new rebate policy. I think he was ready for hostility, although Alex (our chair) managed to shut it down. It was amazing how people seemed to feel the bookstore owed them something. Textbooks are expensive because they are, buy them used. The biggest factor in cheap textbooks: teachers usimg the same books each year because then everyone can get them used for fairly cheap. Anyway, we are college students, shouldn’t we be industrious in saving money? I mean, we always have plenty for beer.
We also discussed the legislative agenda. Apparently the UW has lobbyists in Olympia. The most controversial issue I think, was whether race should be considered during the application process. I don’t know how this debate turned out because I left at 7:15, fifteen minutes after the senate meeting is supposed to end. I’m sure we’ll still be working with it next week. I am finding that, for all parlimentary procedure supposedly keeps discussion orderly and polite, it is a terrible hinderance for actually accomplishing anything.
