Since my last senate report a lot of really cool and exciting things have happened. None of these things happened in the Senate. At this last meeting Mark Emmert came, which was actually interesting, although he used a lot of buzz words and his speech was like a carved pumpkin, pretty but not very useful.
I felt that he was trying to lay the groundwork for the support of his idea for tuition increases, which he calls the Robin Hood plan. Now I like Robin Hood as much as the next person (except when played by Kevin Costner, that was PAINFUL) but Robin Hood is famous for robbing from the rich to feed the poor. So, basically what this implies is stealing money from the rich students and use it to pay for other people. If tuition is raised to increase the quality of education I receive, fine, so be it, there are lots of reasons to do this. But to basically have me pay my own tuition and part of someone else’s seems ridiculous. I don’t think students who can afford their education have an obligation to fund students who cannot. Oh, btw, the views expressed here are my personal views and do not necessarily reflect the views held by the HCL. If you think I’m wrong, feel free to visit me during office hours 12:30-1:30 Thursdays in HUB sub-basement 31.
Aside from that, the Senate still didn’t do anything. Go to the website if you want more information.
Oh, on a personal note, cute boy who was in one of my classes last year is now a senator, providing a slight incentive to show up to meetings.
