Ah, the bureaucratic wankery that is Senate.
The 11th session of ASUW Senate and my second term as senator began earlier today, and I have found that my feelings for this institution have not changed much since the last time I held this office two years ago. Oh wait, I am slightly more bitter at the removal of the tables from the meeting room. Minor detail, yes, but an important one. What am I supposed to bang my head in frustration on now?
However, the availability of hard, smooth surfaces may not be an issue. Disappointed by my performance the first time around and inspired by Raz's, I intend to approach this office the second time with as much panache as one can muster for such a task.
No more of my boring reports detailing the proceedings of each week. If you really want to know what's going on, visit the ASUW Senate website or email me. The latter is also true if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or words to ponder.
There is one matter of business that needs to be addressed, and it involves any one of you who is an ASUW member. There is a new procedure for RSO's to acquire and maintain their seats. We are currently grandfathered in for the quarter under the old renewal system but by the end of the quarter, we will need to turn in a form that includes at least 30 unique signatures in support of the Honors Croquet League having a senate seat. By unique signatures, it is meant that no RSO senate renewal/sign-up form may have any number of the same signature. If we turn in a form that has one name on it that also appears on the form of another RSO, the form is returned to me and another signature must be obtained. Also, only ASUW members can sign. This includes grad students since they can be ASUW members as well. They will be checking student IDs and the seat can be revoked if it is found that there are non-ASUW member signatures on the form.
I will leave the signature form in the croquet office in the box/filing cubby (or whatever that thing is called) marked "Senator" unless someone finds a better place for it. So if you like having croquet representation in student government, are an ASUW member, and have not endorsed another seat-seeking RSO, I encourage you to come sign the petition during office hours. If you can't make it to our office hours, that's okay. I will bring it to the League's next match on November 6.
Other than that, please bear with me as I re-learn how to post reports and figure out how to switch the chair's gavel with a mallett.
