Richard “Richy” Holman had never played croquet before May 19, 2007. He has, however, been an avid golfer for years. He remarked early on in the game that playing croquet was “just like putting… only with a larger ball and mallet.” Two hours later, Richy found himself among the cream of the croquet crop, playing for victory in the All-Campus Croquet Tournament Final Round.
Richy’s only mistake, as a newcomer, was not to recognize the value of diplomacy and karma early on in the game. In the final round, he began by early on sending fellow player Peter Dane’s (433) ball “in the drink.” This inspired Peter to go kamikaze, preventing Richy from finishing in an easy second place. Richy did finally make it past Peter, taking third place in the Tournament. For his excellent skill during his first day of croquet, we name Richy our May Player of the Month.
Richy is a sophomore in Bioengineering.
