The best way to get to know people is to show up for a meeting and/or pub night. These are scheduled on our Calendar.
How to Join
You can join the club by filling out a waiver and paying the $25 annual fee. This can be done by:
- Visiting the HUB ticketing office (currently on the second floor of Condon--cash or check only!)
- Coming to a meeting or climbing night (see our calendar)
- Getting in touch with one of the officers.
Why Should I Join?
-
Free checkout of a ton of sweet gear.
-
10% off retail at Second Ascent and Feathered Friends.
-
Twice a year we organize campouts in Mazama that are a ton of fun.
-
More experienced members organize beginner friendly trips to help people practice their climbing skills.
-
A community of people to get out in the mountains with.
Wait, I've Never Climbed Before. Where Should I Start?
For historical and liability reasons the club doesn't have a formalized process for teaching beginners how to climb. Unfortunately this means you will have to find your own path into the wonderful world of climbing. But don't worry, there are a lot of resources to help you!
-
Sign up for an intro rock climbing class at the IMA crags.
-
Watch the trip planning section of our forum. Sometimes people organize trips specifically for beginners. Or you can start a new thread to see if anyone wants to get out!
-
Come to our meetings (see the calendar). Sometimes we go over skills like navigation, knot tying, or ski tuning. And we are always open to suggestions!
-
If you have the loot, take a course from the Mountaineers, the Washington Alpine Club, or the American Alpine Institute.
