Last week I spent 4 days bouldering and sport climbing in Squamish, BC with some friends from the IMA.

It was my first time bouldering outdoors and I have only one description: hard! I pretty much got shut down and only managed to climb V2s; pretty humbling. Some of the other guys that have bouldered outdoors before sent some ridiculous stuff and assured me it takes a while to adjust to the outdoor setting. The set up of bouldering outdoors was pretty amazing though: basically we just loaded up with crash pads and then wandered around looking for chalk marks.

We ate pretty luxuriously at the Howe Sound Brewery a few nights and it was amazing. By far the best restaurant food I've eaten in my life. Albeit it was post climbing food so my review is a little bias, but damn, it was good. The Aussie burger was a mouth watering combination of local, grass-fed beef, local cheese, caramelized onions, pineapple, fried egg, bacon, beets and the usual veges. Along with yam fries and a pint of honey pale ale (a 2007 gold metal winner), I dont think I've ever had a better meal. The lamb, marinated in the same fine beer, pot pie was also phenomenal. Both visits the table was also unable to resist the Poutine appetizer; hand cut fries covered in gravy and cheese curds. Okay enough of that, my stomach is grumping and my mouth watering just remembering it.

Kurt, I really appreciate that half of your trip report is dedicated to food. <3 And the bouldering sounds really cool too. :D

I did a little bit of bouldering out there, and I agree that it is a bit different and difficult. I think spending more time there doing that would help. Apparently it can be better or worse depending on the time of the day there as well.
