I'm heading up Lookout Mountain on Sunday, in weather that will hopefully only improve! However, if it doesn't improve, at least there's a lookout at the summit in case there are too many clouds for any other view! Expect snow showers, and recent snow from the day before, so we'll have to be avy-aware.

This trip is around 10 mi, 4400' gain.

This is a slightly longer drive than some trips, so expect a long day out, not necessarily getting back to Seattle until after 8pm.

Time: 6am at the Burke

Gear requirements:
Outdoor winter gear (including full waterproofs: jacket + trousers, sweater/fleece, wool hat, gloves).
Waterproof boots (and warm wool socks)
Snowshoes (can rent from IMA if you are a club member - 2-4pm Friday, or call 206-626-7229)
Lunch, snacks, 2 liters of water
10 bucks cash for your driver
The usual essentials (compass, whistle, extra layer, etc etc).
Ice Axe
Avy beacons/probes (avail from Brian Polagye via email and a stop by his office)

If you're interested please post:
Do you have a car? How many people can you drive?
Do you have all the gear? Do you need to borrow any? (snowshoes/crampons/axes/trekking poles all available at IMA)
What's your previous winter/snowshoe experience?

I'm interested, esp if the goal ends at the top of a peak!
I have all the gear and a partner who would likely love to come and has all the gear too.
We have a non 4wd very low clearance car that we could drive if the conditions allow.

Definitely aiming for a peak! Do you have any objectives you'd like to aim for? Pretending that the weather's going to be manageable this weekend (currently seeming optimistic) I'd been thinking about Hidden Lake Peaks or maybe a repeat of Brian & Craig's and others' trips up Spark Plug. Were you on the large group Hidden Lake Peaks trip of last year?
If the weather keeps looking dire both days, I'm thinking a shorter objective! But still planning to head out.

Initial post updated into a more formal signup.

I'm going on my own trip
I have no car
I have all required gear
I have several snowshoe/winter summits, plenty of snow experience.
I can do either day, whichever's better!

Sorry I've been off this forum waiting to get a good look at the weather.

Funny, I was just looking at lookout mountain last weekend and put it on the probable list for crappy weekends.

I did go on the trip to Hidden Lakes Peak - it was fun but I probably wouldn't opt for it again given all the other peaks I haven't seen yet. I haven't been up spark plug nor do I know it (I'll have to look into that one...

Ok, so officially:
-I'm still game
-only free Sunday.
-Got all gear and a partner who will probably want to join in (with gear too).
-Have car fits 4 (or 5 Squishy) but car isn't well equipped for very bumpy roads and road to snow/ice conditions (we do have chains if we need them). I'd also prefer not to drive if possible (my wrists have been aching a lot this week) but maybe we could bring our car and get help with the driving?
-Have heaps of snow/climbing/some mountaineering experience can self arrest etc.

Will be cool to meet you Carolina!!

Christie

If the trip's still on, I'd love to go.

I don't have a car
I'll rent stuff
[my boots are not waterproof, but they'll be fine]
[I will have new boots shortly]
Enough to do this trip.

And Christie, I can pick up a beacon for you today if you'd like. I'm going to get one, myself. My number's 847 644 5362.

Yay! Trip's still on since you guys are coming!
I'm hopefully heading to Brian's to pick up avy gear later this afternoon as well.

Christie, I'm happy to help with actually driving if we take your car (and can fit all 5). We shouldn't have too much bad driving, since we're going <10 mi down Cascade River Road, but I can also get a car if necessary.

Argh on the out of town thing!

I can certainly provide a car and we can either go 5 in matt's car (toyota camry) or 4 in mine (small honda civic hb).

I'm off to the doc's to have my wrist checked out so help w the driving would be essential, likely!
but what about the avi gear? are you able to get it (and for me too?)

Can't get avy gear if Brian's not around - so we have to decide if we're willing to do the trip without, and just stick to the ridge and make conservative judgments about terrain - not that we wouldn't do any of that just because we had beacons! I'm willing to go out and see how things are.

Hey I'd like to join in if it's not too late!
I don't have to car on campus so I'll need a ride. I can help drive if necessary.
I've got all the requisite gear (except for avy stuff but it seems like we're not gonna bring it).
I've got lots of experience on glaciers, in the snow, and with snow shoes on (from the moutaineers).

Hi Carl,
We have another car, so you're good to go. Be at the main parking lot at the Burke Museum on campus by 6am Sunday. $10 for your driver. PM me your phone number in case anything changes. Please confirm if you'll be coming - otherwise there may be no car for you!

Bring your avy gear - others may get it still, and I think at least one other guy coming has it so the two of you can feel more reassured as a pair!
