Evan posted this in another thread:

"As an aside, is there any way we can improve the search function of the forum? I find it to be almost useless. I've on many occasions tried to look up a TR that I knew contained certain words and had no hits with the search, and then found it manually while scrolling through the forum or the authors posts, or just using the ctrl+f function in the browser."

I wanted to second this, as I have had the same problem, and perhaps get some more input on how/if this can be made better.

Ok, It should work properly now. I had intentionally not indexed the board before due to us running out of web storage space (we are now currently using 91% of our 300MB). When we were hosted elsewhere, it wasn't an issue. Now, we need to be careful to not exceed our rather small allotment of space.

Since google indexes the board, one option is to do a google search and include the following argument on the end:

"Bedal Peak" site:students.washington.edu/climb/forum/

Interesting, and thanks for looking into it Kris...and that's a good tip Brian.

Could a google search box be integrated into the site (say at the top) that is set so that it searches only this site, as I've seen elsewhere (like on the uw website)? Not sure if that costs money to Google though.

Shouldn't we be quickly approaching our quota then? What are you going to do to keep us under the limit? You're not deleting old posts are you!?

The offer for hosting on my Dreamhost account still holds, FYI. I have 100s of GB and 5TB bandwidth, so 300MB+ is a drop in the bucket.
(but domain registration would be $10/year, for something like www.climbingclub.org or whatever)

Thanks Ethan, but I think we'll probably stick here. The really nice thing about this account is that it won't ever go away and all of the software updates and whatnot are well announced and managed by the UW. The space isn't really a huge issue, since we can probably jettison some of the stuff that we no longer need and can always use external accounts to host larger things. It is really nice of you to offer though.

Also, you might eventually be able to convince them to give you more storage space.

I just did a search that I had tried before the site was indexed, and the searches are preforming very well now. Thanks for taking care of this Kris!
