It's amazing how erroneously such a story can be reported. I have read many accounts like this that people have posted on CC.com before, and then inevitably someone points out how the story is all wrong and the principal facts are incorrect. Thankfully though I've never known the actual people involved before and never had occasion to hear a firsthand account of what really happened, and the discrepancies in the story are pretty amazing. It really makes me wonder about the validity and accuracy of reporting on other topics.

The important thing though is that Kris is going to be ok. We're all thinking about you Kris, and too hope you have a speedy recovery.

After reading these articles, I'm just going to disregard the details of any SAR news report.

I was deeply troubled by the initial report on the Sunday night post-expedition cell phone trip report exchange, which hadn't before taken such a somber turn, but now I am relieved by how well the situation was handled (many thanks to you, Jim, and to all the SAR support). Our thoughts are with you, Kris. Get well soon!

The erroneous reporting does not inspire confidence...

Looks like KGW is at least making an effort to correct their coverage, as the article has been updated. It now reads much more consistent with we have been hearing from the folks involved.

Speedy recovery, Kris! Sounds like Jim was a great partner in the rescue.

The KGW site now has a interview with Kris from the hospital. Looks like he is feeling well, all things considered. Seems to do a very nice job fielding questions.

Holy crap! I'd been thinking about them this weekend and wondering how things were going. Get well soon Kris!

I've always had huge confidence in Jim, and this is just confirmation. I hope I would do as well.

Shit. Kris, man. I hope you get better. This is wretched news. Way to stay calm and keep things together. And good interview, eh? I'm super bummed for you. Its also a wretched reminder to all of us, for one of the best mountaineers in our club is not in 100% control of his surroundings.

As for the wretched reporting... has anyone made letters to the editor? It would be nice if they could somewhat be revised of there errors. And about the SAR report. How could that get so off? All this is a minor frustration, and the biggest thing is that Kris gets better soon.

for the benefit of the out-of-towners, Kris (and Mel) made it to the pub tonight, and had some wicked photos to share.

I thought he might try and make pub night, I would have loved to have been there and seen him - I owe him a beer anyways. Speaking with my dad in Portland yesterday, he mentioned that he was going to try visiting Kris at the hospital the other day but ran out of time (he met Kris when Kris and Evan came to help put up the large new beams in my house).

Shoot. I just logged in to see all the cool stuff I can't do but instead I found this...

But I'm glad that everything after the actual accident seems to have worked out as well as it possibly could have. Speedy recovery Kris!
