On a recent backpacking trip I discovered a quick and easy way to get a lot of calories in- Trader Joe's dried, cheese-stuffed tortellini with a small package of Safeway fresh Pesto. Maybe not car-camping gourmet, but it was pretty damn good for back country grub. Thought I'd pass that along.

How much cooking do the tortellini need?

I think they took 10 to 15 minutes, but I was at pretty low elevation.

I have this pasta all the time as home, I'm addicted. It is not however freezer bag cooking friendly.

Location: too far from a pint.
jars of pesto and sun-dried tomatoes are favorite camping foods of mine--
both go well with couscous (no-cook meals!) and lots of nice olive-oil-y calories.
