Looking to get some climbing in over break now that we all have copious amounts of time, Ian Zemke, Nate Redon, and I headed out to World Wall at Exit 32 for a day of pretty good climbing. Specifically, we were at World Wall I - Middle and were glad to find something that was dry or at least had damp patches. I believe the original plan sought out in the car ride was to be at the Woods, but about every single route was significantly wet.
Just enough people out that it wasn't eerily quiet but not enough to make it crowded. In the span of later morning and most of the afternoon, we all lead Devil's Advocate (5.9) which was no problem. The anchor was conveinetly shared with the first pitch of Dreaming of a Life of Ease (5.10d) which was a good step up in difficulty. Then came everyone's desire to climb Son of Jesus (5.10c). This route has a little of everything with a short scramble to start, a dihedral/crack system, and a face climb with some stemming to finish. Despite the very wet and drippy crack, we decided to do it, with Nate taking the first attempt. He was cruising up until it came time to get past the wet crack, consisting of slippery foot holds to stem on and very reachy and sharp crimp. Despite the height advantage, he was not able to pass. Next up was Ian, who got up past the crack and flashed the route. I top roped it and cleaned it, thankful for Nate and Ian for doing the lead. Looking for something easier to finish out the day, everyone climbed Reptiles and Amphetamines (5.9) which shares the anchor (Now with quick clips) with Jug or Not. Reptiles is just a very nice route with the giant jugs and big moves while Jug or Not threw everyone off about 3/4 of the way up with a short traverse with bad side clings and a very slick slope for feet.
Everyone and everything made in home in one piece - so good day of climbing.
