Evan, Hannah, and I went up to Anacortes on Saturday morning to meet up with our friends Sean, Julie, and Jeff for a weekend of cragging adventures on Mt. Erie. We got to Jeff's house at 10AM and he made us a nice Norwegian breakfast consisting of waffles with sour cream and jam plus some eggs and plenty of coffee. All fueled up, we headed toward Mt. Erie to start the climbing.

We started off on Goliath rock for some bouldering and found some cool problems(I'm sure Evan will provide the pics/video he took). Topping out was kind of shitty because the rock had some nice fresh moss/slime that made it kind of dangerous to come down. After that, we moved on to another boulder called fun rock(I think) that was fun to try and traverse the whole way around. After having enough of the bouldering and the mosquitoes sucking our blood, we moved on to the New millennium wall for some sport climbing.

I led the first route on my new rope, and we had some fun letting everyone top rope on it for a while. Jeff led another route that didn't appear in the guide book which was great until he got up past the second bolt and realized that there were no more bolts to until the chain but a great place to put a stopper if he had one with him. After a little bit of sketchy down climbing, he went back up with the stopper and made it to the top. A couple of people climbing the route later, and it was time to head to whistle lake for some cliff jumping which was a great way to cool down.

We returned to Jeff's house where his parents had made some cedar plank salmon and steak with baked potatoes and salad ... Awesome. We had a bonfire by the water, drank some beer then went to bed to get ready for day 2.

The second day started with a hike up Mt. Erie which included some class II/III(maybe) scrambling. We finally made it to the top (which apparently is car accessible, thanks Hannah :). We stayed at the powerline wall the whole day and climbed a couple of routes including the Intimidator, Sushi Eatin, and False Impressions. After the climbing, it was down to the town for some pizza and then we packed up and drove home. All in all, a stellar weekend of climbing and hanging out with good people.

Thanks for posting the link Kris. I can't figure out how to get the videos uploaded correctly, so if you're interested, they are on youtube. just search for "anacortes bouldering" and they should be the top three hits.
