Dallas, Steph, Margie and I headed back out to Leavenworth last weekend, and I have to say it was one of the best Easter weekends I can remember. We met up with a whole crowd of current and former UWCC'ers in 8-mile camp on Saturday night, and did our best to make sure no one in the area got to sleep before midnight. There was even talk of organizing an easterbeer hunt for Sunday morning. :D The only damper was that between the four of us we probably picked 10-12 ticks off ourselves over the course of the weekend. Ugh.

We spent the first day at Pearly Gates, and the second at Bathtub Dome, both of which were good choices. We had both crags completely to ourselves all day, unless you count an over-curious mountain goat at Pearly Gates!

Pictures:

The Goat. It loved to watch us, and do so from many different angles.

Le Goat, again! It circled around us all day, alternately passing us on the trail, and peering down from the top of the crag.

Margie with the triumphal pose on top of the semi-exploratory three pitch 5.7 we did. I think I led past the supposed "anchor" for the climb, which was a REALLY sketchy slung block. That's Dragontail in the background, though you can't really tell because of the clouds.

Yet again, an awesome weekend out!

Wow, that goat is awsome. It looks like it is on the middle of one of the pitches in that first picture, just peering around the conner.

nice! looks like the icicle is in full swing

the last time I was at pearly gates there was a very curious and kinda menacing goat hanging around. At one point he reared up at my friend who was stuck there belaying. Then he pee'd next to us. I guess that's about as much "local attitude" as you get in climbing.

Nice drinking with all you fine folks last weekend!

Dan and I slogged up to Puzzle Palace in Tumwater Canyon late Saturday and climbed the three bolted routes there. They're long (20-30m), steep (overhanging 5.8+!), and unusual for the area (juggy granite face climbing). Definitely recommended if you don't mind hiking.

Sunday we did the Heart of Gold + Prime Rib linkup. Good stuff, seven pitches at a consistent grade. There were some bolted cracks involved, one of them at a stance where I could have placed half my rack, and Prime Rib was a bit contrived, avoiding obvious crack features, but the climbing was lots of fun.

After the slog back down to the car, blood sugar and motivation were low, so we went to Heidelburger to recharge. I kept pestering Dan to try Carnival Crack, so we hiked up through a crappy fire-affected slope (dead trees and bushes) to find no rap chains on the TR anchor, so we bailed. Other excuses: we had to drive home to meet a visiting friend and it had started sprinkling. Also, that crack is effing scary.

Hopefully Ye Olde CCP will post some photos of all the half-naked posing that was done around the fire. (Try to keep it clean, Jon, there are kids reading this Internet.)
