After my trip to Peru, I headed south to Bolivia to do a bunch of touristy stuff. I also trekked across the Cordillera Apolobamba (lots of climbing to be had there, but none for me this trip.)

After I returned to La Paz, I found some dudes to crag with there.

I climbed at the only climbing area near the city (Zona Sur), named El PeƱon, though this is only one of the areas that is there.

The rock is conglomerate and the there's nothing easier than 6a (10a). Lots of fun overhanging stuff, but very different from the climbing I've done around Washington and BC. No cracks either :(. But it was a great time. The areas are named, but the individual routes aren't - so I've just referred to them by their rating.

Here are some pics:

Juan leading the next overhanging beast - 6c (11a)

We then went off to another area called the belly which consisted of two bulges. First bulge made for a tricky boulder start and then another bulge to really drain you at the end!

Gotta dig that there is graffiti on the climb!
