I'm feeling rather lazy today, so I'll keep it short. I hopped a train to the Highlands this weekend and soloed Ben Nevis, the highest hill in the UK.
I stayed in Fort William, which was scenic:
I hiked on this trail
Above the village of Glen Nevis
Until I could see my route up the mountain
I had to walk around some Scottish stags hanging out below my route
I climbed uphill into a cloud until close calls with these scared me onto the "tourist route"
I made it to the summit alright
Where I checked out the wrecked weather observatory
Descended through worsening weather until I could look across and see my ascent ridge and some distant munros
And Caol on the shores of Loch Linnhe
I returned to Glen Nevis by 3:00 - just before dark
It was great fun, although I really wish Highlanders made better whisky, or at least served the better tasting island-brewed stuff.

In case anyone was curious, here's a photo (liberated from the net) which shows Ben Nevis in its majestic glory. My ascent followed the ridgeline on the right of the photo. The cliff tops I snapped a photo of are pretty apparent in this view.
