It looks like phpbb has some mods to make that happen. However, the end of life cycle for version 2 has happened, and we should probably look at moving to phpbb version 3 at some point. I think that the migration would take some time, and we'd probably need to bring the board down for a while, so we should decide when we should do this and let people know first.

Things tend to be pretty dead around finals or during the summer, I think that would be a good time to do this.

I imagine we would prefer to have it so Kris is available to help with the migration. And the sooner the better for technology's sake. Is there a temporary site that can be erected?

Evan, i'll have to check out this google reader thing. Seems nice.

I've resisted reading blogs for a long time because a) most of them are stupid, and b) I like traditional reporting. I've found myself frequenting them more often now as there are some genuinely good ones out there that find a niche not filled by the conventional media, or I have some personal attachment to them. Unfortunately, it's annoying to go to each site every day to check for updates. Blog aggregators are great for that, and google reader, much like most other google products, is both free and excellent.

I don't think it will take that long to do actually, so a temporary site isn't really necessary. I just don't want to impact the board too much so I was trying to get a feel for when it is least used. I would assume finals would be a pretty good time to do it.

As for urgency, the board is working fine right now, but using the newest version would probably allow us to add features like an RSS feed so we can appease certain members

Though, we'll almost certainly break something on the first try during the migration...

I think the idea of doing this during finals week is probably a good one.

Actually, I've had the same problem and set up a Yahoo Pipe some weeks ago:

http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.run?_ ... render=rss

It's quick and dirty and doesn't sort posts by forums but it works for me. No guarantee though, if the web site layout changes it might not work until I get around to fix it.

Cheers from the snowy Swiss alps!

Daniel

Kris, I've been using the RSS feature, and it works well. One thing I noticed was that my feeds have the correct thread name, but the "buy" gives only a number (which I assume is our individual member number). Does this happen to anyone else? I trying to figure out if its my reader's fault.

Thanks
Brian
