I am looking to make a website with a forum similar to this. How does one go about this. I already have a webserver etc... pm or email me. iand@u.washington.edu

The University has some really basic information on web server administration here: http://www.washington.edu/computing/web/publishing/

You will need to install an SQL database, for example MySQL.
The forum software we use is phpBB.

It might be worth checking with your webserver provider (unless that provider is you) before you try doing it all yourself.

My hosting provider (dreamhost) has one-click installs for phpBB forum boards, google apps, etc....

Yeah, and depending on who is hosting your site, you may need to "encourage" them to install the proper software, although I doubt that will be a problem.

Some webhosts like hostgator offer simple installation of a forum like this one, just a couple of clicks and it's done.
