I was thinking about picking up a set of double/twin ropes and saw at REI. They had a nice feel to them but I had never heard of the brand before so thought I'd check the webz.. Anyone have experience with / know about these guys? or have recommendations for a good alpine half/twin setup?

In other news, the weather in the mountains is killing me.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the PMI ropes. I have been very happy with my Mammut Genesis double rope set-up though. I managed to find them on sale for just $180 when I purchased them, maybe they'll go on sale again. Hopefully someone has more info on the PMI ropes for you though. Looking forward to the return of climbing season! If you need to thrash yourself in the mean time, a short dry spell and the columns at Magnuson can be quite a workout!

I also don't know anything about PMI. But I do prefer twin over half ropes in the mountains, although I'm sure other have a different opinion. Twin ropes are a bit lighter, basically act like a single rope, but with more redundancy, and can be used to make long rappels.

Jon- I have limited experience with both half and twin setups in the mountains, but I've always thought twins kind of made the most sense. At any rate, these particular ones are rated both 1/2 and twin so would allow for some flexibility there.

Val - I may have to resort to crack climbing at Magnuson if I don't get to the mountains soon!

I have a pair of these that I picked up and have been using this summer. I'm happy with them (including the pink color) although I don't have anything to compare them to given they are my first pair.

I also quite like Rodrigo's PMI half ropes. They're a bit slippery, and I think they handle nicely for belaying, especially an autolocking setup for belaying up a follower, which can sometimes be a workout to haul up rope. However, I heard a couple of complaints from people we were rappelling with a few weeks ago about how they felt they had to grip really hard to hold onto the ropes during rappels. As long as you habitually use an autoblock or prussik to back up your rappels, this shouldn't be a problem, though.
