Post subject:  Summer Trips

Hey Everyone,

My parents are traveling across the pond to come see me in mid-July and I need to plan some trips for while they are over here. They are both really active and love hiking (although being from England the highest mountain we can really climb is 1000m). Still, they are good with reasonably strenuous hikes (We hiked from Tuolumne Meadows to Yosemite Valley including up Halfdome a few years back).

I was hoping to do a multi-day hike in the olympics with them and a few day hikes somewhere in the Cascades, maybe somewhere up near Lake Ross. Does anyone have any interesting suggestions? Ideally spending as much time above the tree line as possible. Also, how difficult is the high divide in the olympics?

Thanks for any help :)

P.S. What is the Anchorage area like in late June/early July?

Last late June Anchorage was awesome, snow-free, mosquitoes in the backcountry were very healthy. It is easy to get above treeline here. July can be rainy, but last summer was the best ever in AK.
In WA, I think Sahale Arm/Cascade Pass is a really awesome hike that has awesome views. Rainy Pass/4th of July Pass/Cutthroat Pass are all lovely out Hwy 20. Snow can sometimes still be an issue.

As I started reading your post, I immediately thought "high divide". Do it. When I was 18 and leading trips for the mountaineers, I did this as a day trip with people of reasonable ability. It was always a lot of fun. Camping and making it a two day trip would be great.

Ahh thanks for the advice. Cascade and Cutthroat Pass look amazing and I've been looking at High Divide for while now. Glad to know its doable.
