Hello,

I'm not a UW Student, by my sister goes there and I will be visiting her this summer, last week of June and first two weeks of July. I'm going to have access to a car and a ton of gear - so I figured I'd start here to see if I can meet some people who would want to go climbing/mountaineering, especially people who have weekday availability. Some of my fav spots are Mt. Index and the sea cliffs at Cape Flattery. So just saying hello!

Hehe... my thoughts were to rap down and jumar up... actually it'd be so awesome to just camp out at a totally inaccessible beach in the area that you can only get to with rope - I want to do it just for the experience of how awesome a location it is!

Location: too far from a pint.
hm, mind you don't rappel down to a tidal beach and get caught out...

but there are a few of us who will be less-than-fully employed come summer :)
the most productive strategy here is to pick what you want to do and post "hey, i have a car, who wants to come?".

Yup, ha I'm gonna be the guy with the car, as long as you're up for splitting gas money I'm game :)

I also don't know how experienced any of you guys are at trad, but I'd also love to do the North Peak of Index (5.7) - but I definitely don't have the experience to do that myself, although I'd have no problem cleaning. I'd also love to hike up index and rap down the east wall of it, but my concerns there are anchor points for the multi-pitch rap on the way down, I don't want to get stuck so it'd prolly be a good idea to have bolts if that is being done, but A) I've never bolted and B) not sure of the local bolting rules/customs.

Speaking of which, anybody ever do the east face of index? The only documentation I could find at all on the east face was some huge expedition back in the 50's where they built a rope ladder up the east face - I'm assuming prolly with bolts and pitons - interesting if any evidence of that still exists. There is a mention of it here: http://www.mountaineers.org/nwmj/05/051_Ethics.html but that's all I could find on Index east face.
