Nathan and I are looking to do a really mellow ski/snowshoe on the 1st. We plan to get a late start due to the festivities that will likely take place the night before. The destination will somewhere on Snoqualmie Pass (probably Commonwealth Basin). At most, we will be doing 10 miles RT, with 2300’ of gain. This would be a perfect trip for those new to skiing or snowshoeing, or for those that want to get out but aren’t feeling very ambitious. It looks like we will have plenty of fresh snow and avy danger will probably be high, so we will be staying away from any potential avy slopes. Because of our mellow route, I won’t need to require beacons and shovels and more beginners can join!

We’ll be meeting at the 65th and Ravenna Park and Ride at 9:00 am

Gear Required:
Winter clothing (it’ll probably be snowing)
Flotation: Snowshoes and poles or Touring equipment (boots, poles, skis and skins)

If you want to join, respond with:
1. If you have the required gear (I have some extra gear to lend, if you need something)
2. If you can drive and how many passengers you can take
3. If you are skiing or snowshoeing

EDIT: Temps for Friday are looking warmer than I had been hoping for. If it is raining at Snoqualmie Pass, we will have to do the trip another time. Skiing around the woods in the rain would be miserable and ascending to higher elevation looks like it will be dangerous. I'll try to post a decision tomorrow afternoon.

Merry post-Christmas! Gwyn and I have just returned from sunshine and beaches in California and might be interested in joining. It'd be Gwyn's first ever snowy winter experience, so we'd just be snowshoeing. However - while I still have all required kit, Gwyn would need to borrow shoes. Do any of you skiers have snowshoes you won't be wearing that he could borrow?

We don't yet have New Year's plans, so if something spectacular presents itself the 9am start may prove too early, but that's doubtful...

Carolina- I have an extra pair of snowshoes that could be usable after a few duct tape repairs. Also, Nathan has a pair that he might be able to lend out. Either way, we'll bring something for Gwyn to use.

I'd like to come along and get my first turns of the year in.

1. I have all the necessary gear.
2. I could drive if need be, and take another person.
3. I will be skiing.

Avalanche danger looks considerable and high, are we still planning on no beacons or probes?
Just saw Valerie's edit, I agree skiing in the rain is pretty miserable, but we can hope for not-rain!
