Hey All,

I'm new to these parts, with no mountaineering experience (I'd like to learn though). I'd like to get out hiking and catch some views or starting build up some mountaineering skills sometime somewhere in the upcoming weekends. I'm busy the weekend of July 11, but after that it's wide open so far. Unfortunately, I have no car, but I will be buying beer or something for compensation for sure! Just send me an email.

Thanks!
Lucas

Hey,

I haven't posted on the club forum before, though I've been on the mailing list since the fall. Lucas, would you (or anyone else for that matter) be down to hike next weekend? Supposed to rain Saturday, how about Sunday 7/19? Haven't thought about I spot though I've been curious to do a day hike on/around Mt. Baker-anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I have a car and woul be happy to host 4 with one person in the middle.

Thanks,
Matt

You never really know what the weather will be in the mountains until at least 2 days beforehand. Also, for a beginning climb with good beginner challenges I would recommend doing Mt. Baring off highway 2.

Baring's kind of a brushy, vertical schwack (like much of the Cascades). I'd suggest something like Mt. Pugh as a good introduction once the snow on the upper traverses is melted out.

Hi Matt--

Yea, definitely, either day the 18th or 19th would be great! I've done a few hikes around the Mt. Baker area, but most on the north side close to Glacier (winchester peak, lake anne, heliotrope ridge, excelsior pass) but I think that stuff may be a bit too much of a drive. I'll take a look in some books or something and see if I find anything intriguing.

Hi Matt and Lucas,

I'd love to come next weekend if there is a spot in the car. No mountaineering experience as well, but would love to hike. Solid times.

I was looking at maybe trying Mt Pugh or Mt Aix Saturday (maybe something else?). I can drive, although my cars a 2-seater (might be able to borrow another car though).

Pugh is great trip. Definitely bring ice axes for the summit as there are two somewhat exposed snowfields that must be traversed. There is probably a good opportunity to practice self-arrest at the top of Stujack Pass.

Lusas,

what was the name of the hike off the I-90 corridor we talked about last night? I think that's what we picked for Sunday.

Hey Matt,

The hikes Mt. Bandera off of Ira Springs trail. It's exit 45 I believe, forest road 9030 or something.

hooray hiking! If you could keep me posted on Sunday, and if you have a car space, that would be awesome.

Hey Lucas and Genia,

Looks like we're good for Sunday at Mt. Bandera. We're also going with another friend of mine, so I have room for one more if anyone else is interested. I'd like to get rolling around 7 so we don't get back into Seattle too late. My email address is matthew.drooyan@gmail.com if you want to send me your numbers before Sunday.

Looking forward to it!
Matt
