Haha! Ok, it's coming back to me now. Sorry to those with sensitive ears below. It's funny how well I can blank out that part of leading when I get scared. It was a "theoretical bucket" that I had to make a clip off of that felt more like a crimp to my exhausted forearms. Dispite my language, I really do love this route!

Swearing on route is a great way to get up it. I hear it is particularly useful for offwidth climbing, but I like to apply it liberally to all climbing. However, if there are young kids around then I seem to be able to turn it off a bit in favor of loud yelling instead, right Michelle? :D

Michelle, Jim, Dave, and I are headed out to x38 this afternoon for some 5.10ish climbing at Amazonia. Car is full, but there are plenty of routes in the area to spread out on.

Brian, what time are you guys leaving? I've got the afternoon off and wouldn't mind coming. I can drive since your car is full. Anyone else want to go?

Evan, Jim, Michelle, and I headed out to x38 to the Amazonia area yesterday. The cruxes of the trip were sitting in U-district traffic (35 minutes to reach I5!) and staying awake for the drive home.

At Amazonia, Evan put up Sodflesh (5.9), which Michelle and Jim toproped, and I put up Igauanarama (10a), which we all top roped. Evan then put up Tropicana (10c), which I followed and found to be really thought provoking. I led Primus (11a), which was really fun, but rather desperate through the crimpy section and Evan followed. We rounded out the day with all of us climbing I Remember Drooling (10b) (with some assistance at the start) and then Evan and I climbed Scrubbing Neon (10c) to the right and deemed it by far the most awkward, miserable route on the entire wall. Good times, right?

Rounded out the day with Dinner at North Bend Bar and Grill. Amazonia is a pretty fun area, but everything is really sustained, which makes warming up a bit problematic.

If anyone heads up there soon, a folding saw for a little tree maintenance high on Tropicana would be appreciated.

It sounds like you guys had a good time. How did Amazonia compare to Nevermind in approach time and route quality? Would you recommend it for an afternoon outing?

The approach time is about 20 minutes on a somewhat rocky trail, so definitely do-able as an afternoon. The routes are all slightly overhung and the climbs (with the exception of Scrubbing Neon) are high quality. Evan and I thoroughly enjoyed our leads.

I agree with Brian's assessment. The holds are generally larger and more positive than those on Nevermind but it is more overhung, and I think the routes at the left side of the wall are a bit longer than on Nevermind. Definitely skip scrubbing neon. All the others that we climbed I would recommend.

Michelle and I are headed out to x38 or x32 tomorrow afternoon (Friday), leaving Seattle around 1PM. Will plan to be back early evening. Looking to do routes in the 5.8-5.10d range. Send me a PM or give me a call if interested. We have two ropes and a number of draws.

Anyone interested in climbing at Index today? I am leaving at 3:15 from the U-district and have room for three more in my car.
